Something is Rotten in Washington State

Last November, Washington state residents sent a resounding message to lawmakers that they were being taxed enough, thank you very much. With the passage of I-960, Washington state legislators are required to have a two-thirds majority to pass any legislation that raises taxes on Washingtonians.

The measure has since proven to be effective but the tax and spenders in Olympia are just so upset that they can’t get their favorite tax hikes passed that they are suing to overturn I-960. In an attempt to thwart the will of the people, Senate Democrats, lead by majority leader Lisa Brown (D-Spokane), filed a lawsuit to overturn I-960 in the state Supreme Court on Monday.

Oh, and they also want to fast track the lawsuit to do away with this important taxpayer safeguard in order to squeeze through tax hikes before the legislative session ends on March 13.

Washington residents worked 199 days out of the year last year to pay for the cost of government. This shameless attempt by Washington Democrats to eliminate an effective and voter-approved taxpayer protection mechanism will have consequences. Fortunately Washington residents will have the chance to hold supporters of this odious lawsuit accountable at the polls this fall.
