Union Puppet Test: Will Gov. Culver (D-IA) Veto Forced Bargaining Bill

As told in a recent press release issued by the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF), the Senate has passed H.F. 2645 which, if signed by Gov. Culver, will mandate forced negotiation sessions between public employees and the state.

According to AWF’s policy director Brian Johnson, “Forced bargaining laws are nothing more than vehicles used by the union-bosses to hold state budgets hostage,” says Johnson. “By giving one labor group authority to demand an increase on salaries, benefits, and promotions, everyone else has something taken away. If any public official goes on strike and demands more money, guess who will now pay their salary—the taxpayer.”

Other groups are weighing in as well. The Association of American Educators Iowa state chapter has called for a veto as well. “Governor Culver himself was the one who called for public debates on this bill, which the leadership in the Assembly blatantly ignored,” said Jim Hawkins, executive director of Professional Educators of Iowa. “We now need the governor to be true to his word and not allow the voices of the citizens of Iowa to be silenced in favor of Big Labor.”

Also, Americans for Tax Reform has issued an Action Alert on the issue. Please click here to send a pre-typed letter to the Governor urging him to veto this bill.

According to recent stories, the efforts seem to be paying off.

Perhaps the unions aren’t pulling Culver’s strings after all?
